Water Warriors

Help Conserve Water

The Urban Utilities Water Warriors Flash Mob challenge celebrates World Water Day on Wednesday March 22nd. It is all about appreciating water and raising awareness of the 2 billion people world-wide living without access to safe water.

For more information visit: www.worldwaterday.org/learn

This challenge is sponsored by our partners at Urban Utilities and is for Early Learning Centres in Brisbane City, Ipswich and Scenic Rim Councils. Centres outside these areas can participate and will receive a different prize if chosen as the winners!

CHALLENGE: Water Warriors Flash Mob

EQUIPMENT:

Projector screen to show music video  /  Printed game cards  /  Video camera

TIME NEEDED:

30 minutes for Step 1 and Step 2
Up to 1 hour class session for Step 3

Step 1

Play the Water Warriors Song for your children using the link below. This song is all about how we can reduce water wastage and describes the only 3 things that should be flushed down the toilet – poo, pee and paper.

You can also get your kids to learn to sing the song – the lyrics are downloadable via the button below.

Step 2

Play the ‘To Flush or Not To Flush” game with your class! This game is flexible but basically involves the teacher holding up household items or items that frequently get flushed down the toilet. Children can then guess if they can or cannot flush the items and why.

You can use items around your classroom or bring in some items from home!

Or you can download these game cards and hold those up instead. The children can have the option to place the cards into the toilet or the rubbish bin. Or, if you prefer an online interactive option, use the ‘What’s a No3?” game which can be played along with your children if you have access to a screen/projector.

It is important to get children to understand why only the 3 p’s can be flushed down the toilet. You can also use the Urban Utilities ‘Waterwise Worksheet’ to help children understand why saving water is necessary.

Step 3

It’s time to put together a Flash Mob or a dance music video for the Water Warriors Song! Teach your children the dance moves and practice using the Water Warriors song.

Step 4

Film your flash mob or music video and submit it to us to go in the draw to win a Water Warriors incursion and show thanks to Urban Utilities (for centres within Brisbane City, Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley and Ipswich areas)
If your centre is outside these regions, you will receive a visit and presentation from the EcoMarines team AND a water-saving prize pack for your centre.

Step 5: SUBMIT!

As it can be difficult to send a large video file directly via our website, we advise that you send the video directly to our team through email:

If your video is too large, try these options:

  • Use Wetransfer – a safe, one off file sharing website
  • You can send the video directly to dominika@ecomarines.org
  • Use the EcoMarines Google Drive to upload your video into: click Here to access

Submissions are due April 3rd 2023 if you want to go in the draw to win the prize!
